The Sacred Work of Small Things
He sees it. Every bit of it. And it matters more than you know.
There’s a verse that changed the way I show up in the daily grind:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
— Colossians 3:23
And when I say “whatever,” I mean it.
That includes wiping noses, folding laundry, juggling schedules, cooking dinner, and showing up again and again even when no one says thank you.
It includes making yourself available all day long—before you’ve even brushed your teeth, opened your Bible, or made that important phone call—because everyone else needed something from you first.
It’s the kind of service that doesn’t come with applause.
It’s the kind of obedience that doesn’t trend.
But it’s holy.
Because He sees it.
You’re not just cleaning up after toddlers or holding down a household—you’re ministering in the middle of the mundane.
The world won’t always recognize it.
But heaven does.
“Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
— Matthew 6:4
⸻
There are days I’ve whispered through clenched teeth and tired tears,
“I’m invisible. I’m tired. Do You even see me?”
I don’t remember the last time someone poured into me without needing something in return.
But God, in His mercy, always answers with presence.
Every unseen act of service, every private sacrifice, every time you show up when you could’ve walked away—He catches it all.
And He calls it sacred.
⸻
Let’s get honest:
I grieve the life I imagined.
I thought by now things would be more secure.
I didn’t plan on sickness, or my kids walking through heartbreak.
I didn’t imagine raising my niece and nephew while also being the caretaker for my disabled brother.
I thought my photography career—something I poured my heart into—would define my future.
It brought money. Luxury. Recognition.
But it also filled me with pride… and later, bitterness.
And when God asked me to lay it down, it wasn’t failure.
It was obedience.
You may have laid down dreams for this life of service.
You may have traded applause for faithfulness.
You may be carrying grief that no one else can name.
But don’t grow weary.
Don’t mistake hidden for unimportant.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9
⸻
So celebrate the quiet wins:
• The argument you didn’t start.
• The forgiveness you gave without being asked.
• The prayer you whispered while wiping the counter.
• The way you kept loving people who don’t always love you back.
• The moments you stayed tender, even when you felt overlooked.
• The ways you keep showing up, even when you want to shut down.
Heaven counts differently.
And here’s the miracle:
When people see you serve like this—when they see grace instead of resentment, humility instead of pride—they’ll see Jesus.
And they’ll want more of Him.
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
— Proverbs 16:3
So keep going.
Not for perfection.
Not for recognition.
But because He’s worth it.
And He’s watching.
